name: Ironhide
canon: Transformers: IDW
reference:
Ironhide Personal ref
Canon ref
canon point: Immediately after his mini series. The last thing he recalls is Alpha Trion leaving Cybertron.
background:
Ironhide's world really kind of sucked. It was ripped apart by war, there was a huge, terrible problem with the government slash senate and rebellion and more war. Some lower-class guys decided they really didn't like how things were run, and went to change this. Of course, they didn't do it with a merry song and dance, they did it with a lot of punching and politicians getting dead and turned into mono-eyed creeps. Basically, everything was awful. Ironhide was just a hired muscle for a long time, just your average kind of guy, one nobody really noticed or cared about, until things got really bad and some guy named Optimus needed some muscle around. He trained him, worked closely with him, and ended up becoming pretty good friends.
Then he eventually became a right-hand-man for Prime. It was still pretty terrible. But he doesn't remember a good 90% of it. He became a bot who would do anything for Prime, and the Autobots as a whole. His world doesn't really have much in the way of a government anymore, it's more militaristic. He's floating on the edges of the society anymore, stranded on a dead planet -- yep, that's right, Cybertron is dead and buried. It is an ex-planet. Populated by bugs. Ironhide really has no idea what's going on anymore, mostly because he's been dead, apparently, for a long time. Right now, all he knows is that he has to stay alive long enough to maybe see someone again. Maybe. If he's lucky.
For the most part, he's just been a soldier and a bodyguard his whole life, letting the specifics of the world pass by. He's been missing so much for so long, he doesn't even know where he stands anymore. As far as he knows, the war is still going on, and he's still needed for the fight.
personality:
Above all else, Ironhide is loyal. His loyalty knows no bounds -- be it to Optimus Prime or to the Autobot cause. And it's that loyalty that got him into the entire mess of his story. He would do anything for his leader, or his fellow Autobots, including taking a shot straight to the chest, in their defense. Sometimes, this can blind him to the less than desirable characteristics in someone. If he decides to stand by someone, there is very little that will sway him from that decision, short of a display of outright treason or other kinds of wrongdoing.
He is also exceptionally stubborn, determined, and opinionated. Once he gets his mind set on something, it's next to impossible to sway him. If he wants to go charging into a swarm of ravenous insect monsters to save an Autobot, he's damn well going to do it. No one short of Optimus Prime is going to tell him not to. That's not really to say he's the most intelligent bot out there. Sometimes it takes a while for things to really dawn on him, but he never lets it stop him from doing what he feels is right.
He's also not above telling you exactly what he thinks of you, in no uncertain terms. If he's willing to talk back to Alpha Trion, it's safe to assume no one is above getting an earful from Ironhide. Or hearing what he has to say. There is a limit, though, as his loyalty and support of Optimus tends to trump even this bullheaded trait -- he'll listen to Prime, and while he's still not above speaking his mind, ultimately, Optimus' say-so is the end of the matter. Despite that, he's not really much of a conversationalist.
All this does make for an Autobot who is not often easily impressed. When confronted with a being of legend, his only response was "Okay." It takes quite a bit to rattle him, on the positive side, with Ironhide tending to take more things in stride than most. If only for the sake of getting the job done. He's a very "just the facts" kind of individual, as he figures anything else is just going to get in the way. Dealing with problems is something he does best while in motion, or alone, as he showed in the end of his comic, when he stomped off to think for a while.
He prefers action to inaction -- doing something instead of sitting around talking about it. This can be a reckless sort of trait, if not for the centuries worth of experience behind him. He knows what he's doing, even if he doesn't always think it through one-hundred percent of the time. Once he gets into a situation, usually he manages to muscle his way out of them again, in the end. Unfortunately, he's also got something of a temper, and it does tend to get away from him from time to time. Punching solves a lot of problems, as far as he's concerned. He's more apt to do the talking with his fists than with his mouth, when his temper gets the best of him -- equal parts bark and bite.
Basically, you roll all of these things together and you get a cranky old man who'd rather kick you off his lawn himself, rather than sit around and wait for the sprinklers to do it for him.
powers and abilities:
Just look at Ironhide's name for a second. He has exactly what his name implies -- a thick armor exterior (and harder head) that can apparently take hits not everyone can. One of the reasons Trion ended up using him as a proverbial battering ram against the Swarm. He's a heavy hitter, with centuries of combat experience, and the skill to carry out even the most reckless idea. He's big, he's strong, and he's tough.
He's a solider, essentially. That's where his strengths lie -- in terms of weapons and combat, there are few things out there more fearsome than Ironhide. Except Megatron. Or some of his more terrifying underlings. Anyway, yes, Ironhide is a soldier to the core. He knows soldiering, it's what he's good at. That's... pretty much all he's good at, really. Even Alpha Trion said so.
He doesn't have any supernatural powers, just the years of combat experience, both physical and with firearms, if his impression of a walking armory is anything to go by. In addition, he's a giant robot who occasionally turns into a big red ATV with the capacity to ram and run over obstacles in his path.

infinity gem: Time Gem! Because of Ironhide's missing past, and his issues surrounding it, he's a little fixated on the time he last remembers. He recalls it vividly. Strongly. It bothers him a lot to be missing those millions of years, and if he could get it back, or get back to the time he last remembers, it would be one of the greatest things he could ever accomplish. It's very frustrating, missing everything like that.

log sample:
He pays little attention to the initial altercation, he doesn't really notice what started it. There were, at the time, more important things to consider.
Like how there are a lot of things in this world Ironhide doesn't particularly understand. Like the complex issues of politics and astrophysics. What he does understand, sadly, is violence. He always has. In retrospect, it's probably not something that speaks well of him. At all. It's probably something depressing, something he should try to change later on.
Like thoughts he doesn't get a chance to stew over, because the bar is suddenly erupting in a flurry of said violence.
He stands on reflex, which makes someone think it's a good idea to take a swing at the big guy. It isn't. One hand snaps out and seizes the fool by his throat, huge fingers squeezing with casual strength. He feels something crack in his grip, and there is a surge of savage glee. Something he hasn't felt since he fired on all those bugs, turning them to so much shrapnel.
The unfortunate soul goes sailing through the air, landing with an audible crunch against a wall. Someone is at his back, and since they aren't stabbing or punching or shooting him he doesn't see the need to threaten them. Opting instead to drive an elbow into someone else's face. It's good, getting to cut lose. Something he's been more or less denied for a long time. He's always had to hold back, even here, on this strange world. And, honestly, there's probably not much time left before the authorities or military or whoever show up and send him packing.
Oh well. His attention is caught by some fleeing patrons, and he half-turns. One fighter tries to take advantage of the fact by running in with a knife held aloft. Ironhide's hand snaps out again, the motion inhumanly quick, grasping the knife arm at the wrist, twisting.
"'Scuse me. You should siddown."
It's a wonder he doesn't rip the arm out of its socket. But the goon goes down, and he dusts his hands off, snorting at the sad pile in something like smug satisfaction. There. Take that.
